Specific Admission Requirements

• The number of places available are announced by the Graduate School with the eligibility criteria for candidates, as well as other required documents that must be attached to the application such as:
• Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University.
• Previous University education in a suitable subject (academic background) and grades of relevant degrees.
• Letters of recommendation.
• Personal interview and/or written examination (if provided by the Department’s internal rules).
• Submission of preliminary research proposal for admission to a doctoral course (if provided by the Department’s internal rules).

The Department may also set additional criteria and quality indicators such as: (a) number of students’ publications in scientific journals, (b) students’ participation in seminars, symposia, research programmes, (c) presentations by students at conferences, (d) knowledge of foreign languages, and (e) professional experience, etc 

Profile of Programme
The Master's degree in European Studies is offered by the Department of French and European Studies of the University of Cyprus in Greek and international languages. According to the linguistic profile of students, some courses can occasionally be taught in Greek or French. The aims of the Master's program can be summarized as follows:
From an academic viewpoint, the program aims to cover an obvious gap in the programs offered internationally in the field of postgraduate European Studies. More specifically, it aims to move away from the usual frame of such programs which are usually based on a dominant politico-economic approach.
Thus, the postgraduate program aims to investigate specific cultural issues related to Europe and to see how these issues relate to philosophical, literary, visual and other cultural narratives. The program puts forward ways of studying European cultural phenomena in a synthetic way, combining a specific European conjuncture with its diachronic depth.
From a research point of view, the aim of the program is for its graduates to be able to carry out doctoral studies in specific fields of European cultural studies, combining them with European literature studies, comparative literature, visual and art studies, European history, sociology, anthropology and political sciences.

The Department’s graduates can work in local government agencies (Ministries, Municipalities, etc.), in the Diplomatic Service, in organizations with European interests in Cyprus and abroad, in electronic and printed journalism, in cultural organizations (theatrical and cinematographic exhibitions, galleries, festivals, etc.), conference and cultural tourism, in consulting companies for the preparation of proposals for European programs, in public relations services in companies, in hotels, in international organizations, in observatories, and in think tanks for European and global issues
